Mangaluru, Oct 27: CPI(M) chief secretary Yadav Shetty has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of supporting Israel's actions against Palestinians in a bid to impress the United States.

Speaking at the CPI(M) Mangaluru South convention held on Sunday at V S K auditorium, Kottara Chowki, Shetty stated, “The world is in a precarious state. The war between Israel and Palestine has been ongoing for a year, with over 48,000 people, including 16,000 women and children, losing their lives due to Israeli aggression. The CPI(M) condemns these heinous acts.”

He criticised Modi’s unmet promises, including "Acche Din," doubling farmers' incomes, and creating two crore jobs, as Modi now leads the nation in his third term. “Instead of fulfilling these assurances, he has handed over the country’s resources to corporations like Ambani and Adani,” he alleged.

Shetty further noted, “Labour laws were established through decades of communist struggle. However, the Modi government has altered these laws to favor corporations and harm farmers, leading to protests that have seen 715 farmers lose their lives. Justice for them remains elusive.”

He called for restoring the city’s CPI(M) influence, stating, “In Mangaluru, the red flag was once prominent. We must revive its glory and fight the ongoing corruption in MCC. The public must recognise the red flag as the only true alternative.”

In his presidential address, CPI(M) district board member Sunil Kumar Bajal highlighted the I.N.D.I.A bloc's success in challenging the BJP, crediting the CPI(M)’s pivotal role in establishing it. “Since the independence movement, the CPI(M( has significantly contributed to the nation, fighting against anti-farmer and anti-laborer policies,” he said.

He rebutted claims of Marxism’s decline, citing renewed interest in Karl Marx’s works during the 2008 global recession. “This shows that Marxism and socialism remain enduring truths, even if capitalists refuse to acknowledge them,” he remarked.

The event saw the presence of district secretary board member Com Balakrishna Shetty, city committee members Com Padmavati Shetty, Com Yogish Jeppinamogaru, Jayaram Maniyani, welcome committee honorary president Padmanabha Kotian, president Prakash Kottary, working president Ashok Sriyan, organising secretary Manoj Kulal, chief secretary Prashant Acharya, and treasurer Rajesh Urwastore.

CPIM city secretary Com Santhosh Bajal compered the event, while Prashant Acharya extended the welcome, and Rajesh Urwastore delivered the vote of thanks.
