SCS Hospital inaugurates Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, provides scholarship

Mangaluru, Oct 24: As part of the 37th Anniversary celebrations of SCS hospital, hundreds of bright children requiring financial support were identified by the hospital and provided the ‘Sorake Chandrashekar Memorial Annual Scholarships’ on October 22 in loving remembrance of Sorake Chandrashekhar, founder chairman, SCS Hospital.

Ivan D’Souza,member of legislative council, Dr J P Alva, senior consultant physician, former dean and professor of medicine, Father Muller’s Medical College, Ranjan Bellarpady, founder and ED, Mangala Resource Management Pvt Ltd, chief coordinator, Ramakrishna Mission, Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan were the chief guests for the scholarship programme.

They emphasized that one should give back to the society and the children receiving the scholarship must become capable and competent professionals, who in turn help other students to complete their education just as Dr Jeevaraj Sorake-CMD, SCS hospital is doing year after year.

The importance of having great, morally sound role models was also highlighted by the chief guests to the students. Dr Chandrashekar J Sorake, clinical director, SCS hospital, delivered the key note address and addressed the students and guests during the annual scholarship programme of SCS hospital. The clinical director and the staff members of the hospital welcomed all the guests.

The hospital dedicated its new State of the Art PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) which was inaugurated by Dr N Vinay Hegde, chairman and director of Lamina Group of companies on October 23, president of Nitte Education Trust and chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University). This PICU is highly equipped to treat children requiring all types of advanced care with not only the best in class technology, but also exceptionally well trained pediatric intensive care nursing and medical teams.

Dr N Vinay Hegde appreciated the pediatric and neonatal service that SCS hospital has been offering since several decades. He recounted an instance where a close relative’s 7-month-old premature baby was very successfully treated and revived by the SCS hospital medical team and has now become a very happy, young child. He also recollected fond memories of his close association with Sorake Chandrashekar and the exceptional professionalism and high-quality services that were given by the SCS Motors company run by him.

Dr Santhosh Soans, professor and HoD of pediatrics, AJ Insititute of Medical Sciences, Mangaluru and chief of neonatal and pediatric intensive care division, AJ Hospital and Research Center, Mangaluru, congratulated the hospital team on its accomplishments and contributions to the society. Dr Murali Keshav, senior consultant paediatrician, medical director, Sparsha Diagnostics, Mangaluru hailed the hospital’s exceptional nursing care as second to none, making the lives of parents and children very pain free, healthy and happy at all times. He recognized the yeomen services and social welfare projects of the hospital from providing scholarships to enable the education of hundreds of children to the urban reforestation programme and so on.

The winners of the sports, athletic, indoor games, healthy heart cooking competition, and music competitions received prizes from the chief guests and their talents and dedication were very well recognized by all. The formal programmes was followed by numerous cultural programmes by the staff members show-casing their talents in music, dance and Yakshagana.
