Mangalore: Towards Better, Safer City - Hundreds of Cyclists 'Rally' for a Cause

Mangalore, Dec 4: The lifestyle modification and youth activity centre, Rx Life organized a cycle rally in the city on Sunday December 4 in a bid to popularize cycling create awareness on the necessity to conserve fuel and develop traffic sense among citizens.
The rally was flagged off at Lady Hill Circle at 7 am by Dr Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation. The rally route covered a distance of 21 km.
The rally will pass through Kottara, Kuloor, Pejavar village and back on the same route through Kuloor Bridge.
The rally also intended to impress upon the district administration and city planners the need to safeguard cyclists’ interests. Arrangements to supply water at different points, cycle rescue vans, ambulances, doctors and first aid team were made for the participants. Ambulance and first aid support was provided by NITTE group through KS Hegde Medical Hospital. A cycle rescue vehicle was arranged to pick up cycles in case of breakdowns.
A team of doctors gave a brief demonstration on critical care and life saving skills on the occasion.
Dr Mohan Alva inaugurated the rally by breaking a coconut to the ground. Participants aged between 7 and 80 years took part in the 21 km rally. There were Group Hercules, Group Roadeos, Group Little Champs, Groups Lady Bird categories. There will be rewards for lucky riders, rally logo contest winners, and lucky lady rider.
