Bengaluru/Mysuru, Oct 22: The4 State Government has taken all steps to assess the damage and havoc caused by the continuous heavy downpour in Bengaluru since the last few days and necessary arrangements for relief measures have been taken, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday.

Speaking to media persons in Mysuru, he assured that the government will compensate the people for the losses to their properties due to the rain havoc.

Siddaramaiah said the officials have been directed to visit all the rain affected places and make necessary arrangements.

Ashoka demands release Rs 5,000 cr for relief

Meanwhile, BJP opposition leader R Ashoka visited the rain affected places along with party legislators Dr C N Ashwathanarayan and Satish Reddy.

Ashoka has urged the State Government to immediately release Rs 5,000 crore to tackle the rain havoc damages instead of procrastinating.

He said the government must immediately release Rs 1,000 crore for relief operations and ensure that all the clogged drainages and canals must be desilited to prevent flooding.

The BJP leader criticized Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also the Bengaluru Development Minister, to give a report to the people on the measures taken by the government during the last 16 months. People want to the extent of desilting and clearing of the drains and canals.

Shivakumar, who has been harping on Brand Bengaluru, has neglected the basic needs of the city, Ashoka said.

Instead of Brand Bengaluru, city has become Venice: HDK

Union Heavy Industries Minister and JDS leader lashed out D K Shivakumar for turning Bengaluru into Italy’s Venice forcing people to move around the city in boats due to flooding instead of Brand Bengaluru.

Kumaraswamy said the people of Bengaluru are suffering due to rampant encroachments into lakes and tankbeds and entire city has become a lake instead of its famed image of Silicon Valley of India, Garden City and Knowledge Capital of the country.

The JDS leader said the city is suffering as those who grabbed the lakes have come to power.

BJP is desperate to get back to power to loot. Last Maharashtra MLA drama is more than enough to anyone to know what is happening in the country, politically. HDK case is yet another clear cut illustration. Karnataka under CM Siddhu, is done better and doing better socially and economically. Unfortunately, media is against it, because of its BJP handlers, its creating narratives to destabilize the govt. In a kind of issue like this like natures wrath, BJP leaders should have been working with Congress Govt., pushing Center to release more aid, rather they are busy milking the tragedy for political gains.
