India expels 6 Canadian diplomats hours after withdrawing its envoy to Canada

New Delhi, Oct 14 (IANS): Hours after deciding to withdraw its High Commissioner and other "targeted diplomats" and officials from Canada, India on Monday expelled six Canadian diplomats.

The reason cited behind withdrawing High Commissioner and other officials by India from Canada was Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's continued "hostility" towards the country.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said "the Government of India has decided to expel the following 6 Canadian Diplomats".

1. Stewart Ross Wheeler, Acting High Commissioner

2. Patrick Hebert, Deputy High Commissioner

3. Marie Catherine Joly, First Secretary

4. Ian Ross David Trites, First Secretary

5. Adam James Chuipka, First Secretary

6. Paula Orjuela, First Secretary

The statement mentioned that the diplomats "have been asked to leave India by or before 11.59 p.m. on Saturday (October 19).

Earlier on Monday, the decision to withdraw the High Commissioner and other officials was conveyed to Canadian Charge d'Affaires Stewart Wheeler who was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (East) in New Delhi and informed that the "baseless targeting" of the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats and officials in Canada was completely unacceptable.

"It was underlined that in an atmosphere of extremism and violence, the Trudeau Government’s actions endangered their safety. We have no faith in the current Canadian Government’s commitment to ensure their security. Therefore, the Government of India has decided to withdraw the High Commissioner and other targeted diplomats and officials," a statement read.

"It was also conveyed that India reserves the right to take further steps in response to the Trudeau Government’s support for extremism, violence and separatism against India,” it added.

Earlier in the day, India had issued a strongly-worded statement, calling the diplomatic communication received from Canada on Sunday – suggesting that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are ‘persons of interest’ in a matter related to an investigation in that country – as “preposterous imputations”.

New Delhi asserted once again that the Trudeau government has “consciously provided” space to violent extremists and terrorists to harass, threaten and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada.

I do not understand why we are worrying about India origin Canadian passport holders. Did anyone in India request them under some reservation category to give up Indian passport and take up Canadian passport? They took an informed decision sometimes spending lakhs and by creating fake documents to show political persecution by paying for it in Indian rupees. Are any Canadian passport holders wanting to return? Despite all the ills, they are very happy there and I personally know few families. Returning to India without profit is the last thing on their mind. We need not treat Indian origin Canadian passport holders as India's soft belly. If they are in trouble, let them ask for help, then GOI might respond. But the current dispensation in Canada is operating through these very Indian origin Canadian passport holders. The current point of friction is very much a Canadian passport holder who was into all sorts of business and sadly he is dead within Canadian borders. Let Canada give his family justice within the law governing its borders. A Baloch immigrant gets killed just like that in Canada, we never heard them cry. One Sikh driver or plumber gets killed in local Gang wars; Indian diplomats are being harassed? India rightly showed the Canadian diplomats the door. And yes, please do not subscribe to the over inflated quality of Canadian education. Except for few bright spots, everything else is a sink hole for US dollars sent from Indian parents' savings.

Well deserved move. India is no more a Country which gets bogged down by these Elements. Let them safeguard terrorists and we are more capable of surviving without any one now. Some one commented saying bring back all Indians. I would say those who can come back and qualified enough to get jobs here are surely doing so. If so called "OZY" wants to go to Canada or any country, he can do so. We don't need illiterate mugs here.

One plane full of people including many Canadians were killed. Anybody caught and prosecuted? None. Who was at the helm at that time? It was none other than Trudeau's father. Now the next gen of killers are in politics and they are supporting the son. Things will get lot worse in Canada before it will get better for sure. Till then, Indian passport holders in Canada, please behave well and do not do anything than can bring disrepute to our country.

What if Trudeau wins the next election?🤔 All the arrogance of your ‘ modiji’ is thanks to China who are being targetted by the western world and your ‘ modiji’ is making the best use of this China hatred.
