Mangalore: Historically Famous Kadri Kambala on December 4

Mangalore, Dec 1: The annual Kadri Kambala in the city, mention of which is found even in ancient history, will be held on December 4 afternoon in the presence of Rajayogi Sri Sandhyanathji of Yogeeshwar Mutt here.
This was stated by B Nagaraja Shetty, president of Kadri Kambala Samiti, addressing a press conference in the city on Wednesday November 30.
He also informed that various competitions will be held on the morning of December 4 in the slushy Kambala field. “At 8.30 am, slush field race will be held in four separate categories for both men and women. This will be inaugurated by Sadananda Shetty, chairman of Shree Devi Education Trust. The tug of war competition being held at 10 am will be inaugurated by minister, Krishna J Palemar. Former central Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Harikrishna Punaroor, will inaugurate the Kambala,” Shetty explained.
‘Tappangayi’ competition in which people hold coconuts smeared with oil in their hands and smash them against the coconuts held by the other contestants, will be inaugurated by MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel. On this occasion, ‘Vodafone Treasure Hunt’ is also being organized, rules relating to which will be revealed on that day. The competition between racing buffaloes will be in different categories like Kane Halage, Hagga Hiriya,and Hagga Kiriya. Owners of the winning pairs of buffalos will be given gold medals. A book titled ‘Satyada Siri’ being brought out on the occasion will be released by Vasudeva Acharya, Nagapatri from kakkunje, Shetty said.
“Provision will be made on the occasion of Kambala for exhibition and sale of books, and for sale of traditional items. Separate facility will be provided for photographers and videographers. We request people to visit Kambala in large numbers, introduce culture of Tulunadu to their children, and support this rural game form,” requested district Kannada Sahtiya Parishat president, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.
Kadri Navneet Shetty, B Nityananda Shetty, and Dinesh Gollarakeri were present at the press conference.
