Mangaluru, Oct 10: Mangaluru rural police have arrested two individuals for assaulting and threatening the life of Alwyn Jerome D’Souza, president of the Catholic Sabha, who was inspecting illegal sand mining near Pavoor Uliya.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Mohammed Ataullah (40), a resident of Pudu village in Farangipete, and Tauseer, also known as Pattonji Tauchi (31), a resident of Shama Apartments, Marnamikatte. Ataullah allegedly used abusive language to provoke the attack, while Tauseer physically assaulted Alwyn.

A case of assault and life threat was registered at Mangaluru rural police station on October 5. The court has since remanded the accused to judicial custody.

Illegal sand mining is rampant and widespread in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District. There are guidelines for sand mining which if implemented not a single sand can be removed illegally. But sand mafia and authorities are hand in glove. Anyone questioning would be threatened. Good work by Catholic Sabha. They should continue their work and cover illegal sand mining in other parts of the District also. Jai Hind.

These guys were cozying up with these culprits to fight one 'common enemy'. And as always got it high in the rear. Hope its a lesson learnt. You cannot rear snakes at home and expect it to bite intruders. Time for the supporters to show some spunk , rather than bashing around online with fake ids.

Yes. Cannot agree more. The existing minorities demanded the Govt to accept Palestinian refugees in the 70s. Then the minority became majority. Today the 'paris of middle east' is just heading towards a heap of rubble.
