Mangalore: Goa Konkani Akademi Award for Basti Vaman Shenoy, Rocky Miranda

Mangalore, Nov 29: Basti Vaman Shenoy from Mangalore and Rocky Miranda from Mysore will be conferred the Goa Konkani Akademi lifetime achievement awards for the year 2011.
The lifetime achievement award in literature category has gone to playwright and poet Pundalik Narayan Naik. Similar award in the literary awareness category has gone to Rocky Miranda, a scholar from Mysore. Shenoi Goembab Bhasha Seva Puroskar has gone to Soter Barreto.

Announcing the awards recently, N Shivadas, president of the Akademi along with its research assistant Jayanti Naik, said that the Madhav Manjunath Shanbag Konkani Bhasha Seva Puraskar will be awarded to Basti Vaman Shenoy, president, Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Mangalore and Konkani Seva Saunstha Puroskar to Konkani Seva Kendra, Sanquelim.
These awards include Rs 25, 000 in cash, shawl and a citation
The Akademi has finalised the winners of its literary awards as well.
Nayana Adarkar's 'Spandan' in the short story section, Ullas Nayak's 'Ge Maye' in one-act play, Naman Dhavaskar's 'Muktman' in essay category, Dr Arachana Gaonkar's '110 Vakhadi Vanaspat' in research category and 'Kanni eka Sunneachi' by Sudha Kharangate in the children's literature category have won the literary awards.
These awards carry Rs 10,000 in cash, a memento and a citation.
Yuva Chaitanya Puroskar of Rs 15,000 each has gone to Anant Agni and Gourish Vernekar.
Meanwhile, Pundalik Narayan Naik has refused to accept the award in protest against the Goa government's decision to give grant to English medium schools in par with Konkani medium schools.
