Dubai, Nov 26: ‘Sakath Sangeeth Saanz’, organized by St Anne's Kutam Association Thottam (SAKATH) on November 25 at the Sheikh Rashid auditorium here, turned into a rare musical treat interspersed with a variety of songs and entertainment, with over 1300 music enthusiasts from all around UAE enjoying this completely action-packed evening.
The event also was hailed as this year's best musical entertainment evening with Mangalorean and Goan hit numbers rendered by famous performers from India and Dubai. SAKATH, which has completed five successful years since inception, had put in splendid efforts to make sure that their dream of hosting a memorable and grand event in Dubai came through.
The event was also marked by the presence of special guests from Thottam region, other well-known personalities, and politicians.
Nanu Marol, a Konkani writer and activist, who has been actively involved with organizing this event, took charge of the evening by welcoming the audience, and following it up by introducing the guests of the day. The event was officially inaugurated by the traditional lighting of lamp by the dignitaries.
Pramod Madhwaraj, a well-known businessman and Congress leader from Udupi region, whose family has contributed immensely to the development of region, participated as chief guest. Ronald Colaco, NRI entrepreneur, Michael Dsouza, an entrepreneur from Dubai, Nagaraja Shetty, former Karnataka minister and Coastal Development Authority chairman, who made surprise appearance as a guest, and Jayakrishna Shetty, founder of Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti from Mumbai, were the guests of honour.
"Music is one thing which unites people, but politics divides them," observed Madhwaraj, in his message to the audience, despite being a politician himself. He conveyed his wishes for the success of the event, and assures his support for any good work that SAKATH intends to take up back home.
Sakath president Alfred D'Souza and Event chairman Frank Fernandes were also on dias.
The cultural event started with beautiful and meaningful presentation of song with dance by SAKATH members, depicting the history and culture of Thottam.
Leslie Rego, a master compere from Manglaore, took charge of the musical event in style by making an entry from among the audience. His wit, humour, and exquisite command over language took the show to a new height, as his presence and histrionics added more spice to the show.
Yodelling King, Melwyn Peris' 'Dabazo', made a grand entry. The popular singer from Mangalore, who is performing in Dubai after a long gap, made a special impact among his fans.
To a huge response from the audience, a Tulu song presented by Anitha Samason 'Yekka Saka' took people down the memory lanes.
The lively music directed by Ramiro electrified the atmosphere and made the evening even more enjoyable.
The Goan stars, Ancieto and Lulu, too made lasting impression on the audience with their super hit solo songs. The young faces of musical evening, Vijay Vas and Laila, succeeded in winning over the hearts of the audience with their very first 'Mast Mast' song. Mario Rego, Dubai's talent also rendered his voice.
The show went ahead under an environment filled with rich music, enhanced with superb sound arrangement made by Denzil Fernandes. The specialty of the entire show was that the audience remained glued to their seats throughout the event, except during break. It gave ample evidence to the fact that everyone of them had admired and enjoyed each and every number rendered on the stage.
Songs like Lisboa, Bebdo, Ciriani Kombi, Ye Nari, Dublo Gresth, Nisha, Sobith Celli, Tulu song, ‘Pakkilu Mooji’ etc made the people to ask for repeat performances.
The musical entertainment programme was well-supported by Dubai's comedy artistes, Alphone Dsouza, Sunitha Menezes, Pius Karunalgade and Stany. Four small skits presented by these artistes were well-appreciated by the audience.
To add more glamour to the show, Ocean Kid's young dancers presented Konkani and Hindi numbers. The spectacular dance performances by Ocean Kids troupe was also an important part of entire entertainment package.
During the break, sponsors of the event were felicitated. Daijiworld and Radio spice were the media partners of the event.
Larry Fernandes, a Dubai-based young actor, whose native is Thottam, was felicitated for his achievement in the field of Cinema. He had made his debut into the world of movies through award-winning Konkani movie, 'Kazar', following it up later with a Kannada movie, 'Ellellu Neene, Nannallu Neene'. A memento was presented to him.
The show ended at around 10.15 pm. It was the collective opinion of audience that the popular numbers chosen and presented by the well-known musicians were truly entertaining and such songs kept the interests of audience alive throughout the show. The huge turnout for the show proved that the audience wholeheartedly supports any good and quality event.
Also, with his compering skills, Leslie Rego once again proved that he is the best compere available for such mega shows, especially the action packed entertainment extravaganzas.
