Mangaluru, Sep 28: Julie, a dog belonging to CISF personnel, retired after eight years of service in the security department of the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) here. The dog was of the Labrador breed.

When dogs lose sharpness due to years of work pressure and slowdown in movement, they are retired from service.

Julie joined service on March 26, 2013. In her place, Rio has been brought in. CISF personnel honoured Julie by garlanding her, cutting a cake, and moving her in a small trolley decorated with flowers. All the personnel pulled the trolley to show their respect for Julie's dedicated service.

Julie has been adopted by her handler, CISF personnel Kumar. Rio, an 11-month-old dog, was trained at the CISF dog squad training center in Ranchi and has now joined the CISF force at the international airport in Mangaluru. Currently, there are four dogs in the airport’s canine squad: Rio, Goldie, Max, and Ranger.
