Udupi MLA criticises Cong govt for financial mismanagement, impacting public services

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Sep 27: "The Congress government in the state has utterly failed due to financial mismanagement," said Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, pointing out that around 40,000 BPL ration cards have been put on hold in the Udupi district.

"Anganwadi workers are facing severe challenges, forced to cover costs from their own pockets to provide eggs for children. Basic medical services like CT and MRI scans at the district government hospital have been discontinued due to unpaid bills. Schools and colleges are also suffering, with Mescom cutting off electricity for non-payment. Despite the Udupi district commissioner reporting a loss of Rs 234 crore due to rain damage, not a single rupee has been released as compensation. Yet, Congress leaders continue to claim the government is functioning well. I urge these leaders to understand the state's financial situation before making public statements. The excessive spending on establishing guarantee implementation committees at various levels is a waste of public funds, created merely to appease Congress workers," Suvarna stated.

He further accused the government of financial mismanagement, stating that public services, particularly revenue offices, have become extensions of Congress party offices, with officials acting as party agents. "I warn both the officers and the government to ensure fair functioning," he added.

Regarding local infrastructure, Suvarna said, "Work on the Malpe-Manipal, Indrali, and Santhekatte roads will begin as soon as the rains stop, with Santhekatte’s service road repairs being prioritized. The widening of the Parkala road will also commence soon."

Kamalaksha Hebbaar, president of the BJP Raitha Morcha, added, "Mescom has been disconnecting electricity to many schools and colleges due to non-payment. Udupi is a prime example of this Congress government’s failure. Additionally, the government's sixth guarantee, involving the verification of BPL cardholders, is causing immense hardship for genuine beneficiaries, with 40,000 BPL cardholders now forced to undergo verification to access their benefits."

Why not discuss something closer to home? The Udupi Manipal road that was built by K Raghupathi Bhat at 300% cost escalation? No, not interested...why entha marre? This is public money that has been misappropriated....but if BJP does it, it is fine..

Perhaps, if all enterprises are handed over to Adani and Ambani the BJP MLA would be happy. Oh, I forgot about some commission to the MLA.
