Karkala, Sep 25: In a significant breakthrough, the Ajekaru police have solved the ATM card fraud case involving Rs. 1 lac stolen from Henry D'Souza of Ajekar. Three notorious interstate thieves, known for multiple crimes, have been arrested, prompting public praise for the police's swift action.
The accused — Shravan Satish Minajagi (27) from Solapur, Pradeep Maruti Ingle (27) from Kumma Nagar, and Kiran Balu Chauhan (28) from Pune — each have over 70 cases registered against them across various police stations. Authorities are still searching for a fourth accomplice.
The arrests occurred during a routine check at the Kaduhole police checkpoint in Marne village on Tuesday. Police seized a car valued at Rs 4 lac, three mobile phones, and 52 ATM cards from various banks, totaling approximately Rs. 4.85 lac.
On September 16, Henry D'Souza became a victim when the thieves distracted him at an ATM, swapped his card, and subsequently withdrew Rs. 1 lac. Another similar incident was reported on the same day at an ATM in Joduraste, Karkala Taluk.
The investigation was led by Superintendent of Police Arun K, IPS, with support from Additional SPs Siddalingappa ST and Parameshwara Hegde, along with Karkala DySP Aravind N Kallagujji. The operation was spearheaded by Karkala Circle Inspector Manjappa D R and Ajekar PSI Shubhakar, with crucial assistance from the CDR section of the district police.
This successful operation has reassured local residents and highlighted the Ajekar police's commitment to effectively tackling crime.
