Udupi, Sep 24: MLC Manjunath Bhandary and vice-president, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), addressing media affirmed that, “The BJP lacks direct support from the people and comes to power through backdoor means using the CBI, ED, and election commission.”
Manjunath Bhandary reacted to the court's approval for the prosecution of chief minister Siddaramaiah during a media briefing in Udupi. He stated, “Everyone knew the court would give this ruling. This is not just happening in Karnataka. For instance, Kejriwal was imprisoned for six months, and Suren was also jailed. We will stand with Siddaramaiah as long as he is our party leader.”
Bhandary remarked, “There used to be great respect for the positions of the president and governor in our democracy, and it is unfortunate that we have reached this situation. The chief justice becomes a member of the Rajya Sabha the very next day. How many judges are currently serving as governors? If this is the case, what does it signify? The common people must think critically about all these issues.”
Bhandary said, “We leave it to the people to reflect on this ruling. This democracy has been built on the sacrifices of millions. It is unacceptable for a few individuals to undermine it. The Congress party will continue its legal battle. The wheel of fortune must turn, and it will give us our opportunity. Power is not permanent for anyone. Everyone knows the current state of the BJP in the centre. You were opposing certain individuals, but now you are governing alongside them.”
Bhandary questioned, “What were you saying about Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, and what are you doing now? The same situation could happen to Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu tomorrow. We are people who believe in the Constitution. The entire Congress party stands behind Siddaramaiah. This is a matter of protecting the Constitution, and we leave it to the high command to make the necessary decisions. We will stand with Siddaramaiah as long as he is our party leader.”
