Kuwait, Nov 23: Kuwait India Fraternity Forum (KIFF) conducted a seminar on the topic 'Discrimination: detrimental to development' recently here at Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Auditorium, Jamiyat Al-Islah Al-Ijtemayi Center, in Rawda.
The programme commenced with recitation of Quran by Master Fawaz.
KKMA Dakshina Kannada president and chief guest S M Basheer in his address said that lives of hundreds of innocent Muslim youths and their families have been devastated by the arbitrary arrests, illegal confinement and media trials. Even after it became clear that the Sangh Parivar was behind various terror attacks, the innocent Muslim youths arrested in those cases are perishing in jails. Government and various agencies have time and again displayed double standards when it comes to the matter of delivering justice to Muslims.
Representative of Emirates India Fraternity Forum, UAE Shafi Bellare in his keynote address, said that the opening of the doors of liberalization has resulted in a very huge socioeconomic dislocation and divide. The media and government gloating about the number of Indian millionaires increase in mobile phones and development of urban infrastructure, but we rarely notice the other side of the story, where a very large section of the society is deteriorating day by day.
He further said that in Global Hunger Index, India ranks 96th among 119 developing countries, well below all ours neighbours’ except for Bangladesh.
He narrated the atrocities meted out to the backward communities and other minority communities, with supporting statistical evidence. He further cited that 'Equal Justice to all' as mentioned in the Indian Constitution, just remains in the book.
To identify the status and plight of minorities the Government had constituted many commissions. But unfortunately, the Government has not taken any steps based on the final reports of those commissions. It is an ample evidence of Governments denial of Justice to the minority community, he added.
He also said that it is the responsibility of each citizen to be vigilant enough to identify the injustices around him, wake up from his slumber and start the fight. The fight for social justice is not a week long or weekend affair. It’s a continuous struggle to get things right.
He urged that people should come forward not only for issues which directly touch them but for those issues that affect others.
KIFF Karnataka chapter president Rafeeq Manchi welcomed the gathering, where as Nawab Hussain proposed vote of thanks.
Mohammed Ali Mulur compered the event where in hundreds of expatriates participated.
