Mangalore, Nov 23: A fire broke out in a house at Attavar here on Wednesday November 23. The house belongs to Gunakar, a coolie.
The two-roomed house was earlier shared by Gunakar's brother Nagesh. Now, Gunakar stays in one of the rooms with his wife Seema and their three children.
On Wednesday, Gunakar was away at work and Seema, after finishing her cooking doused the fire and went out. On her return, she was horrified to find the house in flames.
Fire department personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Nearly half the house has been completely gutted.
Sources said that Seema and Gunakar were not in good terms with the neighbours, and Seema also alleged foul play and said that someone known to them might have lit the fire.
Incidentally, Gunakar was fighting a case related to encroachment on his land by his neighbour. All documents and files related to the case have been gutted in the fire, it is learnt.
Moreover, the house does not have power supply and therefore the possibility of short circuit is ruled out. There is no cooking gas either.
On hearing the news of house fire, the elder son, a student of sixth standard in a school at Attavar came running home.
Pandeshwar assistant fire station officer P Sidddalingappa told Daijiworld that the loss has been estimated at Rs 40,000. The house members are yet to register a case. They are at a loss and are expecting some kind of aid from the local political leaders.
