Udupi, Sep 17: The Udupi Press Club Committee held its annual general meeting on Tuesday, September 17, at the Press Club under the chairmanship of committee president Ajith Aradi.
During the meeting, members approved the establishment of a health fund for the benefit of journalists operating within the Udupi Press Club’s jurisdiction. A resolution was passed to allocate approximately Rs 3 lac towards this fund by consolidating money from the old bank account.
Before the meeting commenced, a moment of silence was observed to pay tribute to the late senior journalist Jayakar Suvarna.
Ajith Aradi presented a report detailing the committee's activities from November 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, and from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024. Members' feedback on the report was compiled for further consideration.
The financial statements for the period from November 2022 to March 31, 2024, were presented, discussed, and approved following a question-and-answer session.
Members made suggestions regarding the formulation of certain rules for the operations of the Press Bhavan.
Committee co-convener Nazir Polya proposed that, before implementing the committee's decisions, the Press Club's income accounts be promptly submitted, and the remaining funds deposited into the association's account. This proposal received unanimous approval from the members.
The Udupi District Working Journalists Association's president and committee honorary member Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, along with honorary member and association treasurer Umesh Marpalli, were present.
Committee member Avin Shetty welcomed the gathering, and co-convener Ankith Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
