Mangaluru: Woman lecturer dies after donating liver to relative, cause unclear

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 17: Archana Kamath (33), a lecturer at a city college, passed away after donating a portion of her liver to a relative of her husband. The cause of her death remains unclear.

The relative required a liver transplant, but no other family members had a matching blood type. When Archana's blood type matched, she agreed to donate part of her liver. The surgery took place 12 days ago at a hospital in Bengaluru, where a portion of Archana's liver was successfully transplanted. She reportedly recovered well and was discharged from the hospital.

However, four days ago, Archana suddenly fell ill and passed away in a Mangaluru hospital on September 15. Meanwhile, the relative who received the liver is reportedly in good health.

Archana previously served as a lecturer at Canara College in the city and was most recently a lecturer at Manel Srinivasa Nayak MBA College on the outskirts of Mangaluru. She is survived by her husband, CA Chethan Kumar, and their four-year-old son.

The exact cause of Archana's sudden death is not yet known, leaving her friends and family shocked and grieving over her untimely demise.

"A bright light has gone out, but Archana’s remarkable spirit will continue to guide us. We mourn the loss of this talented, humble, and generous soul who touched countless hearts. As a student, she excelled in all aspects, leaving a lasting impression on Ladyhill English Higher Primary School. Her selfless organ donation reflects her inherent kindness and compassion. Our deepest condolences to her loving family. May God's love and strength uphold them, especially her husband, parents, sister Keerthana and young son, who will deeply miss her loving presence. May Archana's remarkable legacy inspire us to live with purpose, generosity, and love." Rest in peace, dear Archana. Your impact on our lives will never fade."

Only a post mortem report after autopsy is conducted the real cause can be arrived at. This donation isn't life threatening but fate would have willed her passing away after her noble act of donation. Most probably internal wound might have caused bleeding without healing properly or septicemia, but symptoms of pain and fever would have manifested unless a blood clot causing cardiac arrest.

Very sad and unfortunate incident this... Someone who has willed to part with a portion of her vital organ should not have been snatched by fate... This will not deter able people from coming forward to donate organ to the needy... This should only encourage people to vibe for ultra human causes... She will live long in people's hearts... My prayers with the family..... RIP to the noble soul....

Indeed sad and unfortunate. Circumstances can not be judged. Future donors must keep an open mind and remember the hundreds of successful cases. Human life is temporary and uncertain. Thanks.
