Kasargod, Nov 21: 45 sovereigns of gold ornaments were found to have been stolen from the bag of a woman at Uppala in the district. The woman, who lost the ornaments, has been identified as Shamina, wife of Majeed, from Uppala Bappayitotti.
Shameena was travelling on a private bus moving between Talapady and Kasargod. She boarded the bus at Hanafi Bazar, Uppala, and by the time the bus reached Naya Bazar in Uppala, noticed that the zip of her bag had been opened. She checked the contents, and found to her horror that she had lost her gold ornaments.
The bus was stopped immediately, and the passengers were barred from alighting from the bus. Policemen from Manjeshwar police station came on the spot. As they did not have women police personnel, the bus was taken to Kumble police station, where the women personnel frisked the lady passengers. The procedure took several hours, but did not succeed in finding out the missing jewellery.
There is suspicion that people from nomad families, who travel between various places, would have stolen the jewellery, and that they might have alighted at Kaikamba bus stop, located between Hanafi Bazar and Naya Bazar after committing theft.
