India's Nandhidhaa in Sole Lead in World Youth Chess


Caldas Novas (Brazil), Nov 21 (IANS): India's Nandhidhaa P.V. took the sole lead with a perfect score after the fourth round matches in the under-16 girls category of the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship here.

Playing with white pieces against Women Fide Master (WFM) Fataliyeva Ulviyya Sunday, Nandhidhaa showed her supremacy in bishop and pawn and garnered full points against her Azerbaijan rival.

After a rest day Monday, Nandhidhaa will take on top seed Ziaziulkina Nastassia of Bulgaria with black pieces in the fifth round.

Meanwhile, in the under-14 open category, another Indian Diptyan Ghosh defeated Ding Jialin of the US to occupy the joint first spot along with Fide Master (FM) Bellahcene Bilel of France with four points.

In the under-10 open category, Indians Rakesh Kumar Jena and Rathanvel V.S. are in joint lead along with Li Ruifeng of the US and Zhu Yi of China. India's Bommini Mounika Akshaya also shared the lead in under-8 girls category with full point in her kitty.

Earlier in the third round, Nandhidhaa beat Adriana Pachon of Columbia while her team mate in the same category Anjana Krishna shocked third seed and two-time World Youth Champion Women International Master Marsel Efroimski of Israel.

Under-8 Open:- Baasanuren Erdene of Mongolia (3.5) drew with Ram Aravind LN (3.5); Ritam Nag (3) beat Lin Yi of China (2); Sai Krishna S (2) lost to Mursalli Matin of Azerbaijan (3).

Under-10 Girls:- Bansi Prathima M (3) beat Hoshino Karen of Japan (2); Bidhar Rutumbara (2) lost to Du Toit Stephanie of Wales; WFM Tarini Goyal (3) lost to WCM Obolentseva Alexandra of Russia (4), Korenova Magdalena of Czech Republic (2) lost to Priyanka (3).

Under-10 Open:- Rathanvel VS (4) beat Ganjali Hossein of Iran (3); Rakesh Kumar Jena (4) beat Wang Michael of US (3); Anand Nadar (2.5) drew with Jaramillo David of Ecuador (2.5); CM Nitish Belurkar (2) beat Reveco Toledo Luciano Agusto of Chile (1); Nydick Brandon (3.5) beat FM Mitrabha Guha (2.5).

Under-12 Girls :- Priyamvada Karamcheti (3) lost to Gazikova Veronika of Slovakia (3.5); Keen Cosima C of England (2.5) lost to WFM Ivana Maria Furtado (3); Bykovtsev Agata of USA (2) lost to WCM Savant Riya (3); Kossybekova Bibissara (2.5) beat WCM Tejaswini Sagar (1.5).

Under-12 Open:- Karthikeyan Murali (3.5) drew with CM Abhimanyu Puranik (3.5); Plenca Jadranko of Croatia (2.5) lost to Aravindh Chithambaram (3.5); Vykouk Jan of Czech Republic (2) lost to Hetul shah (3); Virtanen Teemu of Finland (2) lost to Harshal Shahi (3).

Under-16 Girls:- Nandhidhaa P V (4) beat WFM Fataliyeva Ulviyya of Azerbaijan (3); WFM Osmanodja Filiz of Germany (2) beat Bala kannamma P (2); Pratyusha Bodda (2.5) lost to Severina Maria of Russia (3.5); Anjana Krishna S (2.5) lost to Tantsuiura Marja of Ukraine (3.5).

Under-16 Open:- Verstraeten Reinaert of Belgium (3) beat IM Shiven Khosla (2); CM Emiroglu Cankut of Turkey (3) beat Sarang Ponkshe (2); Benavente Vazquez Juan Jose of Mexico (2.5) drew with Antonio Viani D'cunha (2.5).

Under-18 Girls:- WIM Tjolsen Katrine of Norway (2.5) beat Visalatchi R (1.5); WIM Vo Thi Kim Phung (3) beat A Akshaya (2); WFM Saranya J (3) drew with WFM Baciu Diana of Maldova (3).

Under-18 Open:- FM Petenyi Tamas of Slovakia (3.5) beat Himal Gusain (2.5); IM Deabshis Das (3.5) beat WGM Cori T Deyse of Peru (2.5); Gaehwiler Gabriel of Switzerland (2.5) drew with Stany GA (2.5).
