Udupi, Nov 21: Speaking after inaugurating the secular organizational meeting arranged by the district unit of JD(S) at Kaup on Sunday November 20, former Prime Minister and JD(S) national president, H D Deve Gowda, said that India is suffering in the vice-like grip of corruption because of NDA and UPA regimes which ruled the country.
“Both NDA and UPA have contributed equally towards stashing away huge amount of black money in Swiss banks, and this has been the root cause of corruption. Our country is vying to become No 1 in the world as far as extent of corruption is concerned,” he ridiculed. He said the state’s politics is to too stinky to be analyzed, and claimed that his son, Kumaraswamy, who served the state for 20 months, had achieved what the other parties could not, during their 60 years of rule.
“The coastal districts of Karnataka, it is generally felt, extend support to BJP. However, this notion has been belied by the large gathering that has assembled here. For the first time in the history of JD(S), I have seen such a large gathering in coastal Karnataka. This convention has infused fresh life into JD(S),” he said.
JD(S) state president and former Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy, speaking on the occasion, opined that the success of this convention will be the guiding force for the state’s future politics. JD(S) state spokesperson, Y S V Datta, delivering the introductory address, said that JD(S) is quite different from Congress and BJP, both of which are crippled, and have been seeking help of others to stay afloat.
On this occasion, leaders of the party handed over party’s flag to Gulam Mohammed, who has been appointed as the district working president of JD(S). A number of activists from other parties joined JD(S) at the programme.
JD(S) leaders like Mahendra Kumar, Madhu Bangarappa, candidate for MLC election from graduates’ constituency, Bhoje Gowda, JD(S) Dakshina Kannada district president, M B Sadashiva, state secretaries, Mohammed Kunhi and A K Sulaiman, participated as chief guests. A number of other leaders were present.
The party activists received the leaders on their arrival, in a huge vehicular rally. They had tea at Vidyaniketan group of educational institutions before proceeding to the venue of the convention.
JD(S) district president, Deviprasad Shetty, welcomed. Yuva Janatadal district president, Vasudeva Rao, proposed vote of thanks.
