Canada, Sep 12: The Mangalorean Community of Calgary (MCC) celebrated Monthi Fest on September 7 at St Thomas More Catholic Church, marking the occasion with a blend of devotion, joy, and community spirit. The celebration began with an introductory prayer, blessings of Novem and the traditional ritual of showering flowers to Mother Mary. A moving procession followed, with attendees singing 'Sakkad Sangatha Melya' in unity of faith.
Fr Jerry led the Holy Mass, and Fr Vijay delivered an inspiring sermon. His message highlighted the importance of putting God first, following Mary’s example of fulfilling God’s will, and honouring our Lady as a tribute to Jesus. Fr Vijay also encouraged attendees to draw motivation from the olympic motto, 'Faster, Stronger, Higher, Together', as a personal challenge to continually improve rather than compete with others.
The celebration continued in the church hall with a variety of engaging activities. The cake-cutting ceremony honoured Mama Mary's birthday, and Fr Jerry shared insights into the significance of Monthi Fest. The Novem was served, and a captivating skit depicted the miraculous appearances of Mother Mary at Vailankanni.
After an authentic Novem Jevon (Meal), the event featured an array of cultural programmes that kept everyone entertained. Highlights included solo singing performances, group dances by children, youth, and adults, and a humorous Konkani skit that filled the hall with laughter. The day concluded with a lively Baila dance, bringing the community together in joyous celebration.
