Udupi, Nov 19: In an interesting development, during the ongoing road works near Panjurli Daivasthana at Padumundu near Saibarakatte, Brahmavar, a big underground hole which looks like a tunnel came into sight on Friday November 18.
The workers employed for road works saw a thick slab of rock covering a spot. On its removal, they saw a cave-like structure. They also came across pieces of ancient pots and bones in the hole.
After soil covering the tunnel was removed, a spot under the earth, which is enough to hold a vessel, came into sight. The locals believe that the hollow space is the spot where a treasure in the form of gold and valuables filled in a sealed vessel had been hidden by people belonging to the past generation, and that the same was looted recently by those who somehow came to know about it.
People feel that there is a need to undertake research on this strange phenomenon. Kota station house officer, Mahesh Prasad, visited the spot and made enquiries. He also took steps to pass on the information to the depart of archaeology.
