Karkala: CM Inaugurates Biofuel Centre at NMAM Institute of Technology

Karkala, Nov 18: Chief miniser D V Sadanand Gowda (DVS) inaugurated Udupi district biofuel information and demonstration centre set up at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte campus, here on Friday November 18. It was set up jointly by Karnataka state biofuel development board and NIT.
The CM also participated in NMAM Institute's silver jubilee celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, DVS said that the state administration has forwarded a proposal to UGC to set up 20 model colleges across the state at a cost of Rs 180 crore. "The state approval has been given to set up 55 polytechnic colleges. About 12 percent of the students are pursuing higher education in the country, and the state has plans to increase the figure to 25 percent," said the CM.
The board chairman Y B Ramakrishna said that it is the sixteenth biofuel information and demonstration centre set up at NIT. "Another 15 centers will be set up in the state within 6 months. Biofuel will be introduced in 18,000 state-owned KSRTC buses in a year, and in buses and machineries that are operating in Bangalore International Airport in a month," he said.
Udupi district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya released NMAM College special bulletin.
Belgaum VTU vice-chancellor Dr H Maheshappa released NMAM silver jubilee sovereign on the occasion.
State legislative council speaker D H Shankaramurti, Nitte University vice-chancellor Vinay Hegde, Vishal Hegde, Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary, Dr N R Shetty, deputy commissioner Dr Reju, Dr Shantaram Shetty, Mangalore directorate of commerce and industry assistant director M Abdul Aziz and others were present.
NIT principal Y S Kulkarni read the annual report. Dr Niranjan proposed the vote of thanks.
