Kuwait, Nov 14: United Mangaloreans Kuwait-UMK’s dream of helping the underprivileged turned into reality for the third time in a row with ‘Fun-Filled Evening 2011’, a successful show staged to generate funds for a charitable cause, presented before a packed audience at the American International School, Maidan Hawally here on October 7. The event comprised melodious Konkani/Tulu songs, foot-tapping dances and the hilarious Konkani drama ‘Sangon Mugdana’.
The proceeds, Rs 14,47,652 (Indian Rupees fourteen lac forty seven thousand six hundred fifty two) in all, was contributed towards ‘White Doves’, a shelter for the homeless destitute in Mangalore, India.
The amount in the form of a cheque was handed over to Corine Rasquinha of White Doves recently by UMK team. Fr Vincent Victor Menezes (parish priest, St Rita church, Cassia), Ronson Saldanha, Lloyd Pinto, Victor Saldanha, Roque Lewis, Philomena Saldanha, Vrinda Lewis and Renwick Lewis visited both the White Doves Homes in Mangalore.
Corine Rasquinha thanked UMK and its generous supporters.
UMK has contributed around Rs 15 lacs to two needy organizations in India in the past two years, raised during two successful shows in 2009 and 2010.
On behalf of the UMK family, leader Agnel Saldanha expressed gratitude to all the generous sponsors, well-wishers, and the audience who whole-heartedly supported and encouraged UMK's new talents for the noble cause.
