Sharjah, Nov 13: While New Year celebrations generally wind up in the first week of January, Sharjah, UAE has reason to celebrate until February 3, 2012. That is the day music maestro Sangeeth Sardar Wilson Olivera’s musical nite organized by St Michael’s Mangalorean Konkani Community (SMMKC), will be held at Indian Association Hall, here at 5:00pm. It will be the first ever Konkani mega show in the history of Sharjah. The spectators will witness new numbers from Wilson Olivera’s composition.
Wilson Olivera
With over 800 compositions of his own in Konkani language, Wilson has been bestowed with titles such as ‘Sangeeth Sardar’ and ‘Konkan Manik’. He has also been awarded with the prestigious, ‘Konkani Kala Samaj Puraskar’ in 1995, ‘Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award’ in 2003, ‘Divo Sahitya Puraskar’ in 2008 and ‘Konkani Surdas Puraskar’ in 2009. Wilson is not only known for his meaningful compositions but also his melodious voice which has often been compared to the legendary Konkan Kogul late Wilfy Rebimbus.
‘Chandnem Udelam’, ‘Mai’, ‘Mamma’, ‘Bombaichem Chedum’, ‘Pavshilya Disani’, Tuja Galancher’, ‘Mother Theresa’, ‘Lavina Priyanka’, ‘Cuckoo- Cuckoo’, ‘Air India Crash’, are a few of his countless number of successful hits. His endless thirst for music is what has led him to have five super hit music albums, 30 successful shows in places like Mangalore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar and now other milestone just round the corner.
Ronald Olivera
Ronald Olivera is the compere of this music show. The younger brother of Wilson, who has won the international Toast Masters Awards for four consecutive years, will be present at the event not only to cheer on his elder brother but also to entertain the audience with his slapstick humor, wit, suave charm, and warmth. Apart from being recognized as an international toast master, Ronald has also contributed a great deal to the world of Konkani music by compering for shows by many famous artistes like the legendary Konkan Kogul late Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D’Souza, Melwyn Peris, Claud D’Souza, late Mick Max, Maxim Pereira, Esther Noronha, and even Goan Nightingale Lorna. With his wit and graceful humour, Ronald will be sure to keep the audience entertained.
Joel Pereira
Famous Sangeeth Guru Joel Pereira, who was considered the backbone of the jury for ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2010’, will be conducting and directing this musical nite. Joel, who is a multi-talented personality and has been a music composer, arranger, and has written and directed many religious plays as well. He has also travelled widely and conducted more than 500 music shows both in India and abroad besides arranging music in a number of languages including Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, English, and Malayalam.
Along with Wilson, the man of the nite himself, we also have renowned singers like Rony D’Cunha, Rathan Castelino, Pradeep Pinto, Prasanth Pinto, Zeena Pereira, and Preema Rodrigues, who are well-known in the Konkani world of music and who with their harmonious voices have been contributing factors in the success of Wilson’s many music albums and shows, thus leading this musical show to be even more of a success.
Apart from ‘Gaana’, the musical nite will also witness the famous comedy group of the Konkani world who are guaranteed to keep you entertained all along. With their rib-tickling jokes and one- liners, even the ones with the most serious looks on their faces are bound to burst into peals of laughter.
The very famous ‘Feet Beat’ dance troupe of UAE with their astounding moves, will make you get up from your chairs and shake a leg with them for this event. The choreographer of the troupe is the famous Arun Lobo, popular for his dance.
