Mangalore, Nov 12: Cruise vessel M V Aida Diva with 1,975 passengers and 598 crew members anchored at NMPT here on Saturday November 12.

The vessel started its journey from Muscat and called at Goa and from there to NMP. The vessel will be sailing out to Cochin the same evening. This is the biggest cruise vessel ever called at the New Mangalore Port.

Out of these 1,975 passengers from Germany, around 1,200 opted for ground tour and enjoyed the scenic beauty and cultural heritage of Dakshina Kannada district. They visited the Thousand Pillar Jain temple, monolithic statue of Gomateshwara, Gokarnanatha temple, St Aloysius Chapel, Kadri temple, cashew factory, and also went shopping. These tourists were taken around in 40 airconditioned buses by the local ground tour operators, M/s Globe International. The agent of the ship is M/s J M Baxi & Co.

Tour operators M/s Royal Caribbean International, one of the leading cruise operators in the world, has visited the Port twice during the current year and had discussions with the Port chairman, traffic manager and deputy conservator, and visited the port area and expressed happiness over the facilities available at NMPT for handling cruise vessels. They were impressed with the world class facilities available at the Cruise Lounge, neat and tidy berth area, concreted roads, security arrangements, emigration facility, greenery in and around the port, availability of local ground tour operators, proximity to tourist areas, etc.

The Liner has already prepared plans for bringing 12 more cruise vessels during the next 1 year period. The biggest vessel M V Brilliance of the Seas with a length of 293.5 metres and 3000 passengers is expected to call at the Port during April 2012 which will be the biggest cruise vessel ever handled at the Port.

Dr P Tamilvanan while expressing happiness over the smooth handling of such a big cruise vessel stated that the captain of the vessel M V Aida Diva has expressed happiness over the facilities available at NMPT, especially the neatness and greenery in and around the Port and the excellent security arrangement and the world class cruise lounge.

    very good news ,that so big tourist ship has reached to mlore ,and many organizers done well for this purpose,some places like near arrival very clean and green,good ac coaches with guides etccc.but in feb 2011 i met some 4 ladies from france and italy from mlore airport to mumbai and v had some hi hello etc,mean time at mumbai i ask one lady who was speaking english good out of 4 ,how is mlore good ???she twisted her lips and others ask her what i ask her ??and thy too did same reaction and the first lady told (mlore )airport is good but out side no good and clean as thy may have met with some of our public toilets (not for use but for photo)and other rest room facilties in some public places , so dear tour organizers pls check that our all above things r good enough for foreign tourists or not b4 u take them to there in advance so thy will do more word of mouth advertizement on arrival at their country with thiers friends or colleagues,other wise one bad mango will spoil all mango basket .all the best to all tour organizers and related officers thanking u all .

    Yesterday I saw them near SPAR-City Center.
    I felt they were left on their own & Autos(drivers) were conversing with them about fares to take them to some places. I felt some Tourist Guides with local language interpreters are needed so that they feel comfortable & are not taken for a ride to earn a few more bucks.

    Good news! Congrats! Though this region is one of the best destinations of the world still the Govt never felt the importance of it. Develop tourist destinations in and around our region in line with Kerala and promote at international arenas. Create different types of international standard commercial merchandises and souvenirs for the tourists and develop world standard 3-star hotels with swimming pools and tennis courts in all the tourist destinations in and around this region. Develop Sultan Battery and the island around it with Kerala-like house-boats in the back-water etc. and the development of tourism industry will create a better platform for medical-tourism for our State-of-the-art Medical facilities.
    Over 50 countries have identified medical tourism as a national industry because many surgery procedures performed in medical tourism destinations cost a fraction of the price they do in the First World. The cost of surgery in India, Thailand or South Africa can be one-tenth of what it is in the United States or Western Europe, and sometimes even less. Despite the global economic downturn, medical tourism has emerged as the fastest growing segment of the Indian tourism industry as it provides first world treatment at third world cost. Medical tourism is expected to generate revenue of Rs. 10,000 crore by 2012 and over 3,50,000 patients from across the world are expected to come to India for treatment.
    Wake-up India as well as Karnataka.

    Cruise Lines calling at Mangalore port will bring tons of advantages to Mangalore. Mangalore has variety of historical sights for foreigners to visit while they are in port. Mangalore has some of the nice Restaurants that tourists can dine and have fun. Mangalore also has some fine shopping centers that tourists can visit and buy some of the sourvenirs at an attractive price. Mangalore also has some fine Universities that tourists can witness and see how India is forging ahead with nearly 200 million students in our schools and colleges. Let the tourists get the very best at a very reasonable cost, and let Mangalore display some of the best we have thru our ancient civilization and history.

    The tour guides conducting the shore-line tours have a great responsibility to satisfy the foreign tourists. Its all good for the economy of Mangalore that will create more jobs, more touristic activity and most importantly display the best that we have in our culture, our history and our people of the civilized society.

    We are fondly attached to cruise travel, and therefore one of these years Mangalore will be one of our cruise destination. We are all set for another 12 day cruise voyage that will take us on a Norwegian Cruise to Rome, Vatican, Greece, Turkey and Egypt.
