Mangaluru, Aug 15: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on August 15 at the administrative office of MCC Bank Limited.
The programme began with a prayer song led by Karen Crasta and team. Chairman Anil Lobo presided over the programme. Tharanath Gatty, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy was the chief guest for the programme. Vice-President Jerald Jude Dsilva and general manager Sunil Menezes were also present on the dias.
The ceremony continued with the hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest Tharanath Gatty. As the flag ascended, all present stood in attention, singing the National Anthem. The atmosphere was charged with patriotic fervour and a sense of unity.
Tharanatha Gatty, in his address, expressed his gratitude for being a part of Independence Day celebrations of the Bank. He presented the significance of the place, “Bavutagudda”,(where the building of the Bank is located) in the Indian Independence movement. He called upon the constituents to live up to the ambitions of the Indian constitution.
Karen Crasta & team presented the patriotic songs which lifted the patriotic spirit among all.
A tribute was paid to late Gopal Krishna Gatty, who passed away due to cardiac arrest. He was sincerely serving the Bank as a security guard for the last 2 years. A financial assistance of Rs 25,000 was handed over by the chairman to his family members, on behalf of the Bank.
The Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony was a resounding success. It provided an opportunity to all staff members to come together, celebrate India’s freedom, and reaffirm their commitment to the nation as well as to the bank.
Directors, Andrew Dsouza, J P Rodrigues, Roshan Dsouza, Irene Rebello, David DSouza, Herald Monteiro, Dr Gerald Pinto, Anil Patrao, Vincent Lasrado, Melwin Vas, Elroy Crasta, C G Pinto, Sushanth Saldanha, Felix Dcruz, Alwyn P Monteiro, deputy general manager, Raj F Menezes and all the staff members were also present for the celebration.
Deril Lasrado, senior manager compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
A Eucharistic celebration was celebrated by Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, parish priest of Our lady of Miracles Church, Milagres, Mangaluru, on the occasion of feast of Assumption of Mother Mary, just before the Independence Day celebrations. In his homily, he narrated the true meaning of freedom.
