Mangalore, Nov 11: As reported by Daijiworld earlier, three people have been arrested in connection with the murders of Murugesh and Upendra that took place on Friday November 11 afternoon.
Confirming the news and producing the arrested before the media, police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said at a press meet late on Friday evening that the arrested are Raghu and Faisal from Moodushedde and Gopal from Shivanagar. All are aged between 25 and 30.
Elaborating, Singh said that they were all, including Murugesh and Vamanjoor Rohi who was murdered in 2009 were of the same group. The group split in 2002 after Nagesh Poojary was murdered, and then again after Rohi's murder.
However, he added that the three arrested on Friday have no criminal cases against them, though they were part of the group.
The motive behind the murder may be rivalry and internal conflict, said Singh, adding that the exact reason will be known only after an interrogation of the arrested. As the murder took place this afternoon and the arrest in the evening, there was not enough time for a thorough investigation, he said.
"We have all the evidence and even the weapon, and we are confident that we will get to the bottom of the matter very soon. The arrested will soon be produced in the court," Singh said.
"It is hoped that the accused, if proven guilty, will be given such punishment that it will be a lesson for others," he said.
He also said that many more names are likely to crop up in the next few days in connection to Friday's murder.
He congraturatulated Panambur and Kavoor police station station staff and also the city police for their quick action.
Ten policemen were given cash awards on the occasion for cracking the case. They are Bernard Dias, Koragappa, Kiran, Uadaykumar, Chandrahas, Mohit, Jabbar, Harish, Shivaprakash and David.

Mangalore, Nov 11: Two persons, including a rowdy sheeter were found murdered near Shivanagara Devi Temple at Moodushedde in Kavoor police limits here on Friday November 11 at around 1.30 pm.
The two have been identified as Murugesh and Upendra. Murugesh was accused in Vamanjoor Rohi murder case. It may be recalled that Vamanjoor Rohi alias Vamanjoor Rohidas Shetty, a notorious rowdy was murdered at Jyotinagar, Vamanjoor here in the wee hours of July 5, 2009.
Both were hacked to death with a sharp weapon, police said. While Murugesh died at the spot, the Upendra breathed his last on the way to the hospital. The locals took a critically injured Upendra to hospital in an auto, but the auto turned turtle near Bondel and they had to take another auto, which wasted precious time and resulted in his death, it is learnt.
Sources said that Upendra was about to wear the 'Aiyappa mala' next week Wednesday. He was an auto rickshaw driver from Koppa.
Murugesh and Upendra, both 32, were brothers-in-law and were staying in the same house. They were said to be together at the time of the murder. They were near a finance firm-cum-mobile recharge shop run by Murugesh when the murderers arrived. It is said that there were two people - while one attacked Upendra, the other chased Murugesh before killing him.
Police sources said that an old lady saw Murugesh being killed and began screaming. The killer reportedly told her that Murugesh was an ill to the society and deserved to be killed.
Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and DCP Mutthuraya along with other policemen arrived at the spot, along with a dog squad.
Police said that they have obtained a clue and that the murderers would be caught in 24 hours.
Though police had earlier said that Upendra too was a rowdy sheeter, they later confirmed that he was innocent and was killed only because he was with Murugesh at the time.
The police also managed to trace the driver of the auto rickshaw by which the murdered escaped, but he claimed innocence and said that he had only given they a ride and did not know anything about the murder.
Investigations are on.
