Mangalore, Nov 11 (DHNS): Less than two days after former chief minister Yeddyurappa was out on bail, the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum of Mangalore has issued a notice to Yeddyurappa to appear before the court on December 5, 2011, in connection with non-payment of medical bills by Yashaswini Co-operative Farmers’ Health Care Trust to the complainant, an insurance holder in Mangalore.
According to the complaint filed by Lokesh Poojary against Gurupura Vyavasaya Seva Sahakari Bank before the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, both Poojary, his wife and baby, are health care scheme holders under Yashaswini Co-operative Farmers Health Care Scheme and are entitled to claim hospital charges and medical charges in case of their ill health under the scheme.
As the couple’s baby ‘Chintan’ was hospitalised in KMC Hospital at Attavar in Mangalore between February 13 and March 9, 2011, and underwent a pediatric surgery, the hospital bill came upto Rs 59,021.
When the couple claimed the bill with Gurupura Vyvasaya Seva Sahakari Bank, the latter did not pay and at the same time, contended that the health care scheme in question is a government co-operative scheme and the then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is the Managing Trustee and the then minister Laxman Savadi is the trustee and the same has been introduced through opposite party no 4 to 7 (Medi Assist India Pvt Ltd; Joint Registrar of Co-op Societies; Deputy Registrar of Co-op Societies and Assistant Registrar of Co-op Socieites).Accordingly, the complainant also made B S Yeddyurappa, Laxman Savadi and five others as party.
After listening to the complainant, the Consumer Forum has issued notice to all the opposite parties including Yeddyurappa (party no 2) and Laxman Savadi (party no 3) to appear before the court in Mangalore on December 5, 2011.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Advocate for Complainant K S N Rajesh said that complainant Lokesh Poojary, besides claiming the actual cost of Rs 59,021, has also claimed Rs 20,000 as compensation and Rs 5,000 as litigation expenses.
