The task of arranging about 32,000 earthen lamps on flat wood pieces erected around Car Street here was initiated on Monday by Paryaya Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt, in the presence of Sri Vidyavallabhateertha Swamiji of Kaniyur Mutt and Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji of Palimar Mutt.
The initiation was done by pasting cow dung to the wooden platform erected around Srikrishna Mutt and placing an earthen lamp over it. All the lamps are simultaneously lit during the night.
The devotees believe that they will get relieved of the ill-affects of their accumulated sins, by looking at the Lord in the lights of the earthen lamps.

Besides pulling two chariots on the occasion, fire crackers were distributed among the children present. Pajavar Sri Vishweashateertha Swamiji also participated in the celebrations.
