Basel, Nov 7: For the fifth time in six years' time, Roger Federer has won the Swiss Indoor title beating down Kei Nishikori in the final on his home town tournament on Sunday November 6.
Federer, who was playing his 98th ATP final triumphed 6-1 6-3 against Nishikori, who beat world number one Novak Djokovic in the Basel semi-final.
The 21-year-old Japanese wild card, Nishikori said, "He did not even give me a chance, he was too good for me today."
Nishikori held his serve in the opening game but Federer rattled off the next seven as he dominated the proceedings against the world number 32.
While Nishikori took only six points off Federer's serve, the latter hit five aces and no double faults. Nishikori put up heavy resistance in the second set, saving two breaks points in the second game atleast to end Federer's run.
But there was nothing that could be done after Federer broke in the sixth game.
Nishikori only got his break point in the ninth game but Federer saved it ending the match smoothly with a forehand smash.
