Iranian Soccer Player Sacked for 'Immoral' Goal Celebration

Tehran, Nov 6 (IANS): Iran's Persepolis soccer club has sacked defender Sheis Rezaei for his "immoral" goal celebration during the 3-2 victory over local Damash club.

Rezaei and his teammate Mohammad Nosrati committed inappropriate acts during a game against Damash in the Iranian Professional League Saturday, the local Tehran Times daily reported.

In the match held in northern city of Rasht that was broadcast live to millions on Iran's state-run TV, Rezaei and Nosrati "jumped on a pile of their teammates after they scored a goal and involved themselves in immoralities, grabbing and squeezing the backside of unidentified teammates".

Persepolis also fined Rezaei $230,000. Nosrati will also miss six matches and was fined $194,000, said the report.

The disciplinary committee of the Iranian Football Federation will also issue a final verdict on the pair Sunday.

Iranian social values consider such behaviour as the violation of public morality, even worse if it is done before the eyes of the spectators and TV cameras.
