Udupi, Nov 6: Of late, the Athrady-Parkala, Hiriyadka-Someshwara stretches of state highway have become a matter of concern for many motorists.
Hundreds of vehicles ply on this route every day, forced to put up with the large, crater-like potholes that pockmark the road, making commuting a nightmare of an experience.
Passengers commuting between Karkala and Udupi have been depending on Athrady-Parkala route. Also, to go to Hebri, Teerthahalli, Shimoga, the most used route is Athrady-Parkala, Hiriyadka-Someshwara.
What is even more worrying is the fact that ambulances fetch patients from Shimoga and Chikmaglur districts to hospitals in Manipal via this route, which may at times prove fatal if the patient were in a critical condition. Not only is the journey time-consuming because of the potholes, but also stressful and jerky for the same reason.
The bus owners too have suffered loss due to the poor condition of the road, as spare parts of buses involve high costs. As rains are on recession now, road repair works should be taken up at the earliest, say locals and commuters.
