Mangalore, Nov 5: VHP leaders on Saturday November 5 flayed the alleged connection between the recent act of vandalism at St Alphonsa Catholic Church in Kankanady and Hindu unions.
Addressing a press meet held on Saturday November 5, Jagadeesh Shenava, vice-president, Vishwa Hindu Parishat said that a few media have depicted the Church incident as ‘church attack’ and wrong impressions were being created among people about Hindu unions like the Bajrang Dal and the VHP.
"A few reports published by the press claim that there was some unethical activity going on at the Church. Police have arrested a person already with regard to this case. Even police are hiding the truth," he said.
"Hence, VHP urges COD investigations into the incident so that the truth is revealed to the public. In case reports in the newspapers are true, the government should take proper action against such activity and the heads of the institution should be taken to task," he added.
He reiterated that there was no connection between Hindu unions and the church incident. "The arrested man is a convert from Hinduism to Christianity, it is reported. But now police are arresting innocent people," he said and urged the police to stop taking Hindus into custody without evidence.
Manohar Tulajaram, president, VHP, Gopal Kutthar, chief secretary, VHP, were present.
