Mangalore: Man from North India Killed in Hit-and-run Accident

Mangalore, Nov 2: A 28-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident at 6.45 pm here on Wednesday November 2.

The accident occured in front of St Joseph's Church, Jeppu.

The deceased has been identified as Lillu from Orissa. He was a plumber staying in Kankanady area here. The identity was established after police called up a few contacts on Lillu's mobile phone, Manjunath Shetty, circle inspector of police (traffic) told Daijiworld.

He was killed when a catering vehicle (KA 19 C 9454) hit him while he was walking on the road. His mobile phone and umbrella were strewn around.

Though the police have not yet found out the name of the catering company, eyewitnesses said that it was based in Kudroli.

Pandeshwar police have managed to trace one person, however, they did not divulge details.

The police are also on the lookout for the catering vehicle's driver.

Lillu's body has been shifted to Wenlock hospital in the city.

    The moment we enter any road in Mangalore City we can see how the two wheelers, cars, City buses & lorries are moving ignoring traffic rules. Every one is in a hurry for some reasons & in a competition in overtaking other vehicles. Who cares for the pedestrians like school going children & elderly people? To avoid Hit & run cases CCTV cameras must be installed in the major city traffic junctions and guilty must be given a minimum of 5 years jail.

    it is of no use blaming the traffic polic or catering people. there were footpaths for pedestrians built so nicely, a bus stand near St.Joseph Ngr Entrance donated by the Spandana Trust. with widening of roads everything was demolished. Corporation has totally forgotten to repair the damages. rain water on one side and mud on the other side of the road. Strange part is Our So called Corporator is having a business on this road itself.can you pls open your eyes wide and look into problems please Madam?

    Everything will stop. if the department install CCTV in some places. Keep record for 6 months.why the dept breaking thier heads ?

    Might be the case of urgent delivery of food which the catering company had caterred. They dont care for Human Life what matter to them is business.I kindly request the Police to catch the culprit and put him in Jail and also put a heavy fine along with the Jail term. Let this case be a example for our reckless bus drivers also.

    People have to be very careful while walking on the roads. Since our mini city does not have footpaths we the pedestrains have to be careful of the speeding vechicles, specially the four wheelers,heavy vechicles etc. They drive as if they own the roads. We have schools in the area of this accident the school children have to be careful, the parents and school authorites have to be alert before we have another accident like this, the victim can be anyone.

    There is no big issu to find the vehicle to find out. why these police cant do a silly work or what. in city triffic the police men stops the vehicle and gets the fine collection for their pocket collection.

    RTO/Traffic police has to take note of the accidents happens in and around Mangalore frequently.The innocent North Indian paid his life due to reckless driving of catering vehicle.Hit and run action of driver itself shows driver might be in wrong position.RTO of Mangalore need to vigilante erroneous drivers.May the soul rest in peace.
