Mangalore: Bag Containing Ornaments Worth Rs 1 Crore Lost in Train

Mangalore, Nov 2: The representative of a firm dealing in gold ornaments lost a bag which reportedly contained gold and gold ornaments worth about a crore of rupees. The incident, which occurred at the local railway station, came into the open with some delay.
T K J Associates, based at Kaladi Junction in Kuttanellur, Trissur district, has been involved with trading of gold ornaments since long. The concern is well-known among the jewellers of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, as it has been dealing with them since long. Jijo Lazar, an employee of the company, who was deputed to sell ornaments in Karnataka coast, had visited some jewellers in the city, Udupi and Puttur, before reaching the Central railway station here for going back to his home town by train, on October 21.
Jijo had with him a bag containing jewellery items. It is said that the bag had in it, 2,856 grams of newly made gold ornaments, and 905 grams of gold. He boarded West Coast Express which began its journey at 9.30 pm that day. As all the reserved compartments were full, he found a seat in the general compartment of the train. After securing a seat, he asked the fellow passengers to take care of his bag during the period he visited the toilet. Jijo says that on his return, he was told by a passenger sitting next to him, that someone came there and took the bag away. Having been mentally disoriented by this unexpected development, Jijo reached Trissue in a shocked state of mind.
Netto T G, representative of T K J Associates, filed a complaint in this connection with the railway police. He explained that there was delay in filing the complaint, as Jijo’s mental state did not permit him to lodge the complaint immediately.
The railway police here have registered a case. Investigation has been taken up.
