Mangalore, Oct 30: The assessment meet organized under the aegis of Mangalore South Block Congress Committee under the guidance of KPCC to discuss the upcoming interactive meet with voters at Kanthi Church Hall, Mangaladevi turned out be a ‘bitter’ occasion.
It all began when former minister and senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary came down heavily upon district congress vice-president Ivan D’Souza for possessing many posts in the party.
He said that the newcomers to the party should not aspire for any posts and instead must work hard and prove their competence. "Ivan D’Souza is holding multiple posts of KPCC secretary, district congress vice-president and also election officer. Senior Congress workers should be given respect, and for that Ivan needs to resign from the post of district congress vice-president with immediate effect," Poojary demanded. Meanwhile, sitting on the dais, Ivan silently chuckled.
Poojary also said that congress leaders and activists should not display black flags to Advani on his arrival in city as it would provide undue publicity to him and also there would be no point in congress activists being jailed for the same. Later Poojary left the venue as he had to attend a wedding.
When Ivan’s turn came to address the gathering asked for what reasons he should quit from his post, and defended his integrity in the party, saying that he has worked at all levels for the benefit of the party.
MLA U T Khader, Mohammed Masood, former president of minority community commission, leaders Mithun Rai, Arun Coelho among others were present.
