Mangalore, Oct 29: Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of Karnataka Sahitya Parishad has been chosen for the prestigious ‘Pingara Rajyotsava award’ instituted by Pingara, Kannada Weekly Magazine.
A glittering award ceremony will be organized in Town Hall on Tuesday November 15, informed Raymond D’Cunha, editor of Pingara Magazine at a press meet.
In all, the names of 20 achievers in various fields were placed before the selection committee. After thorough scrutiny, the prominent members of the selection squad chose Harikrishna Punaroor for the award for building 101 homes for the homeless people at Talipady village, which falls under Kinnigoli panchayat limits, near Mulky.
The selection committee was headed by Roy Castelino, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan. The other members of the jury to select the awardee were Fr William Menezes, PRO, Mangalore Diocese, Shrikar Prabhu, president of BJP south zone, Mangalore, Devanandini Marla Jain, advocate and JDS woman president North zone, Daijiworld Editor-in-chief Walter Nandalike, Rohan R. Monteiro, managing director, Property Infratech India Pvt ltd and C G Pinto, general manager, Corporation Bank.
Journalist K Dayanand Pai, Dr M Mohan Alva, Daijiworld Editor Walter Nandalike, Grace Pinto, Ryan Education Institutes, Shree Kshethra Dharmastala Rural Development Project and Mandd Sobhann have been the recipients of the award in the past years.
The award ceremony on November 15 will be blessed by Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza and Sri Charukeerthi Panditacharya Mahaswami. K Abhayachandra Jain, Dr Mohan Alva, P B Harish Rai and Shrikar Prabhu will be the chief guests on the occasion. A musical orchestra by Anitha Samson and troupe will be special attraction of the day.
