Mangaluru police crackdown on buses for high-beam lights, shrill horns

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (VP)

Mangaluru, Jul 3: The Mangaluru city police, in conjunction with the Mangaluru traffic police, filed 96 cases against buses for the use of high-beam lights on Wednesday, July 3, at Lalbagh, Mangaluru.

The Mangaluru city police and traffic police have initiated two special drives to address these issues throughout July. During the drive, many buses were stopped for inspection, and shrill horns were also seized.

Prior to this incident, Alok Kumar, additional director general of police (traffic and road safety), Karnataka, highlighted, “We cannot definitively say whether high-beam lights are causing accidents because it is not recorded anywhere as a reason for accidents. However, it certainly is a possibility.

"The Karnataka state police is going to undertake a special drive against high-beam lights and glaring vehicle headlights starting in July, booking drivers under section 177 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act. This decision comes after police noted how such lights increase the risk of crashes, especially during night times," he added.

Need more government bus in Udupi and mangaluru. Private bus is having a monopoly here. Also rash driving and accidents by private bus is everyday story. Need to send old buses which don't meet emission standards to scrap. Strict safety rules needed.

No. There are many people who use head lights in even in city limits. Most of the drivers in India don't have a basic driving sense and knowledge.

This action should be extended to include all vehicles using large noise horns. Some of the motorbikes and Rickshaw drivers have installed loud horns meant for buses/trucks and use them deliberately to scare the other vehicle drivers by blowing on them continuosly. Vehicle owners should not be allowed to change the original horns, the vehicle came with, as that is what it is licensed for.

The Police / Road Transport Authority / District Administration has to prosecute the city and service buses which do not have both f the passenger side doors..... Administration as well as bus lobby looks like they belong to another world..... Real issues are sidelined..... Also because of misplaced priorities of MSCL / MCC, Mangalore doesnot have a city bus terminal, Bus stop passenger shelters, and they call it a smart city project.... is smartness only in looting or progressively building our beloved Beautiful city....

RTO should look after screaming sound system in private buses also. The loud sound systems creates lot of problems for the elderly/ Small babies and more over while sick people travel on that buses and when its having over crowded. Now a days bus sound system is no more required as all having mobiles in their hand they listen to music their self. Can you Daiji take initiative on this problems also. please??

Very good!! These joker Bus drivers deserve this. They use these shrill horns to bully other motorists on the road. The police and RTO must join hands and cancel registration of such busses and drivers who are repeat offenders of using such horns.
