Lankan Star Chaminda Vaas to Promote Cricket in Mangalore

Mangalore, Oct 27: Chaminda Vaas, veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder and a legend in the world of cricket, has decided to provide this city the opportunity to host the “Chaminda Vaas Benefit T20 Cricket Cup”
This is the first time in the history of the city that an international cricket team will visit here.
Chaminda Vaaz will announce this officially at a press conference at noon on Saturday October 29, at Ocean Pearl Hotel, Mangalore. DKCA president Srikant Rai will also be present.



City's leading advertising group Magnum Intergrafiks Pvt Ltd is hosting this prestigious event.
 
The stadium atmosphere will be carnival-like, but the game of cricket will be serious and professional, in keeping with international T20 rules.

The event will be supported by Udayavani who is the official media partner. Janasri TV will be the official and exclusive telecast partner, 92.7 BIG FM will be the official radio partner, and Cila Advertisers will be the official outdoor (hoardings) partner.

The objective of hosting this event in the city is to promote cricket amongst the youth, showcase the fast developing coastal city.

    vaas made some money playing International cricket and wants some more courtesy Mangalorians. As far as Stadiums are concerned Yeddi is is going to Donate his land if he goes to jail for 10 years Hopefully we can have a stadium in Yeddi Land, not in Mangalore

    Just one tournament will not produce quality players. What we need is opportunities to our children to learn the basic techniques of playing cricket. In Russia, I am told a baby learns to swim before even sitting down or standing up. That is why they have world class swimmers. In the same way, if our children are taught skills of cricket at the young age, we will have good cricketers in future. I admire Pravin Kumar, who learnt the skills by watching TV and made it to the national team. If approached, I am sure the government will give the land for the stadium.

    Can you imagine international cricketers playing on pebbles and stones without the grass and the turf wicket? Are they willing to play on it. We have to just wait and see. You cannot have a formula 1 race on the streets of mangalore. You need a international standard race track to attract formula 1 drivers, similarly you cannot attract international cricketers to a "Maidan". Is it a joke. Time will tell. Good luck DKCA.

    as ronald has put it, we have sponsors, old retired cricketers, hotels for openings, good media coverage (online, print and electronic)except stadium. and oh, good malls for the rich to spend. while the poor have to fast looking at the inflation.

    We do not have 2 to 3 acre land in whole of DK to have a full fledged cricket stadium!! What are we talking and what our most corrupt little ministers are talking!!? Mangala stadium!!? It is a sports stadium!! Not a cricket stadium! If some authority has courage....let trhem make a good cricket stadium to hold Ranji stadium to start with.....They can only invite top class players and no stadium to show our potential!! We are happy with attacks, mud slinging, denotification and so on...Should I add Jai hooo..? I will not until we have few cricket stadiums around....,failures!!!!
