Bangalore, Oct 27: The Central Investigation Bureau (CBI), which is investigating the illegal mining in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh under the direct supervision of the Supreme court, has opened an exclusive camp office in Bellary in connection with its investigation into the illegal mining cases.
Janardhana Reddy, who was arrested more than a month back, is now lodged in the Chanchalguda Jail in Hyderabad. The Managing Director of OMC Srinivas has also been arrested. The duo’s applications for bail have been turned down by the CBI Special Court.
It may be recalled that the former Tourism and Infrastructure Minister of Karnataka, Gali Janardhana Reddy, has already been arrested by the CBI in connection with the illegal mining activities allegedly by Obulapuram Mining Company in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh following a case registered by that State Government.
Incidentally, the Supreme Court has already banned all mining activities in Bellary, Chitradurga and Tumkur districts in Karnataka following the report submitted by a high-power Centrally Empowered Committee.
The CBI had also raided the offices and residences of the once all-powerful Bellary mining lords and has seized crores of rupees in hard cash besides documents pertaining to illegal assets owned by the Reddys and their associates. The CBI has also raided the residences of Janardhana Reddy’s other brothers, G Karunakara Reddy, G Somashekara Reddy and their associate and former minister B Sriramulu.
The Bellary Camp Office of CBI, according to an official press release, is located at American Guest House, Annexe Building, Behind Lokayukta Office, Opposite Pavan Hotel, Ananthpur Road, in Bellary.

Meanwhile, the State Government is planning to initiate legal action against more than 600 officers named by the former Lokayukta Mr Justice N Santhosh Hegde in his final report on illegal mining that led to the resignation of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.
