Udupi: Reckless Driving – Miraculous Escape for 40 Passengers

Udupi, Oct 26: A private bus plying towards Mangalore from here was plunged into the paddy field besides the road on national highway 66 at Katpady on October 26 evening. 






The reckless driving by the driver of the private bus was responsible for the mishap, who tried to overtake disregarding the safety of nearly 40 passengers, alleged the locals.

The bus also rammed into a tipper truck that was grossly damaged in the process.

All the passengers miraculously survived the mishap although four were critically injured. Kaup police registered a case in this regard.

    I belive the only language these bus drivers will understand is good beating,, the minute the bus passengers realise that the their bus driver is reckless driver, passengers should all get together ask the bus driver to stop the bus, and once he stops the bus pull him out and give good beating, this will send message to all drivers of this kind that they are being watched by the alert passengers. hope fully this will create some fear factor result in road decilpline.

    cancel registration of bus and put Driver to jail on attempt to murder charges. Also all buses should have speed governers of 40kmph and also their horn should mellow down. Can Daijiworld please help do something regarding this? If implemented, it will be a boon to common man

    Last week when i was travelling from M'lore to Udupi, express bus's back wheel got separated out of the bus and it went near the footpath where some school kids where walking. By God's grace, those kids were survived by an inch. Even the bus was stopped instantly. Else there would have been another news here. How careless these bus operators are!. They cant even check up before the trip.

    In foreign countries, there are hidden cameras installed on top.There are speed limits as well. The moment the vehicle crosses the speed limit, the hidden camera captures the scene and you can see the same published in the newspaper the next day. It is high time, DK instals such hidden cameras all over, so that no one can escape having broken the traffic rules.

    I fully agree with Mr. Murad.Fine is working fine in gulf countries. They also give discount on fines !!! Yes only solution is heavy fine for all the mistakes. No renewal of registartion until fine is settled.

    RTO should follow Gulf Country Law any drivers take their life driver or owner has to pay the blood money (Rs 1M), then these people will understand what is life otherwise these drivers will not learn anything.

    While the new bus arrives, during the time of registration in RTO MANGALORE, there will be installed the speed governor, after the completion of registration of new bus, soon the speed governor will be uninstalled by the bus owner. And the fact is, nearly 50% of the express buses between mangalore udupi(express) doesn't have proper documentation. Alkways there will be adjustments between time keepers, conductors.

    The Dept. of State Transport is also responsible for this. The maximum speed limit on these buses should be set to 40 kms per hour. Based on the 40 kms per hour speed, normal time to complete the commute and an additional 10 minutes of traffic time should be added to the timetable.

    Year after year so many accidents are taking place and our state government is sleeping. It is not the time to blame for previous governments. Since you are in power, take some action now..

    In Dakshina Kannada there no planed roads.We applied asphalt on the bullcart ways.we need proper roads.and we need a system to take care about rash drivers .But no political will .people die like dogs on roads.Who care.We dont think even . Pay few rupees and close the case

    i was one of the passengers travelling in this bus and was seated in the long seat to the left of the driver with another four passengers. The driver had resorted to rash driving right from the moment the bus left udupi and was trying to overtake other vehicles even from the left side. i was gesturing to the driver to slow down but he took no notice. the conductor was perhaps at the back of the bus and the agent was issuing tickets. at the accident spot, the driver had tried to take the bus through a small gap overtaking a car ahead of the bus while he lorry was coming in the opposite direction.

    It is true that the rash driving of the driver had caused critical injuries to several passengers. at the same time, the driver also might have realized his folly at the last moment and steered the bus fully to the left after overtaking the car. By this action he could save himself fully and the bus overturned . but this also prevented a heads-on collission with the lorry, and atleast passengers sitting in the first few rows on the rightside escaped a certain on-the-spot death.
    it should be noted that the driver was not wearing a uniform and had aparently escaped by boarding a ksrtc bus. the private bus owners are employing timekeepers in all prominent places (including the taluk office stop at udupi) and the salary these timekeepers are paid inflates the busfare. the timekeepers should be held responsible for ensuring that the drivers are in uniform.

    Driving is very very reckless in Mangalore. The roads are bad as well, steps for climbing the bus are very high, and then drivers are impatient. What a pity when senior citizens, sick, disabled take the bus!! For short distance may be they can afford an auto, but what about long distance and who cannot afford to go by auto even for a short distance. Using of mobile phones when driving any vehicle even a cycle should be banned by RTO and fined when found doing so, so that their life is safe and the lives of so many precious people going up and down. Even talking to people when driving the vehicle should be avoided. To lodge complaint for reckless driving, using mobile phones whilst driving, etc should be made available at signal points, roundabouts, etc and immediate action should be taken. For this type of dirty driving, RTO should cancel the licence. Without appropriate action by police, people take it easy and whose life is lost?

    If the chance is given to me to look at the only road that is from Manipal to mangalore and the traffic I bet the government /traffic police That I will put all drivers "on line" and make sure that there will be not even a single accident.Simply suspend the drivers who overtake dangerously.( Ban them for one year from driving)Driver should know where to speed and how to overtake.I travelled several time in Express bus ,the bus trying to overtake the other bus in front both are driving 80 to 90 KMPH on bad roads with 2 metre gap in front .Imagine the front driver stops the bus suddenly...? Need strong laws /strong traffic police ( Qualified) I have planes to Join Traffic department as a Law enforcing authority person and fix this problem.
    Till then God Save all passangers

    Ghastly accidents in DK are occuring with alarming regularity with 100s losing their lives. Unless the road infrastructure is improved by making roads one way, these are bound to happen what with rash driving and over speeding as in this case again. The road from Bhatkal to Mangalore is indeed a death trap and passengers should offer obeisance to their Gods before embarking on journeys to save them from accidents. Compare this with the roads from Dharwad to Pune and Mumbai and you will know why this is happening in our Kar-Nataka state!!!!
