Bangalore: With Over One Crore Commuters, Namma Metro Becomes Destination in Itself

Bangalore, Oct 24: There is just one expression on the face of every Bangalorean who travelled in the ‘Namma Metro’ – a look of pride. With just three days since it was opened to public, travel via metro trains has become the most sought after means of transport in the city overnight.
It is learnt that, in just three days, more than one crore commuters have used the metro train service. Seeing this over-whelming response, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to extend the service up till 11.30 pm.
The officials, expecting a heavy rush on weekends, have also increased the frequency of the trains to 100. Several commuters, along with their families, were seen standing in queues over the weekend, just to enjoy the Metro train ride.
A BMRCL official said that revenue of more than Rs 4 lac was earned over the weekend. The official added that about 75,000 people made use of the Metro train service on Saturday October 22.
With people thronging to the Metro stations in large numbers, MG Road, here was packed with families on Sunday October 23. Namma Metro now seems to be a popular weekend attraction for families from across the city. While the experience was a fun-filled one for many, there were a few who complained of the huge crowd being a turn-off factor. Speaking to the media, one commuter said, “The train was extremely crowded and there was a lot of pushing and shoving.”
Also, the BMRCL officials have announced that they would hold extra services on Sundays and Diwali holidays expecting a huge passenger rush.
