Udupi, Oct 22: Vikas Khanna, who graduated from Welcome Group Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal, will host the second edition of hugely popular MasterChef India. He will step into the shoes of Akshay Kumar, who had won the hearts and minds of millions of Indians with his crisp and unique hosting of MasterChef India 1.
Khanna, who belongs to the sixth batch of students of the school, which graduated in 1991, informed his Alma Mater about this success through a mail. While recollecting with pride the contributions made by Parvadhavardhini and Kulmohan who trained him at this school in moulding him, he explained that his talent and experience have won this honour for him. He is involved with a number of restaurants and project in New York at present. He had hosted television serials like Kitchan Nightmares and Health Kichin in the past. Vikas, who is a highly respected international level chef, is settled in New York now. MasterChef India 2 is set to be telecast on Star Plus channel with effect from today.
Khanna, a native of Amritsar, also has interest in making models out of alluvial soil, soil, and other things, in addition to cooking. Present head of the Welcome Group School, Prof Y G Tarakan, says that Khanna could scale such a great height because of his desire to tour various places, and huge dreams he cherished for himself. Khanna, who has diverse interests, also visited Sri Krishna Mutt here often during his college days, and had learnt to chant Bhajans. Khanna, who initially worked in some restaurants in the country, later served Culinary Institute in USA and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. He got international recognition while serving there. He also is a writer, film maker, and humanitarian.
Vikas also had won recognition as the hottest chef of America early this year. He won wide recognition also by serving food at the interaction of Hindu American Seva Charities Foundation organized at White House with President Barack Obama. He has also come for lavish praise from personalities like George W Bush and Prince Charles.
