Udupi, Oct 21: Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Shirur Mutt announced that a state level Goodudeepa contest is being organized at the Mutt. He said that this contest is meant to encourage and revive the creative art of making Goodudeepas in Karnataka.
“The contest will be held in two categories, one for traditional Goodudeepas, and the other, for mega-sized artistic Goodudeepas in unique designs. There will be three prizes on offer in each category, first, second and third. In addition, all the participants will get prizes and cash rewards.
The Gooddeepas under unique designs should depict either Kanaka Gopura, tower of the northern entrance to the Mutt, chariots of the Mutt, or Lord Madananteshwara or Chandreshwara temples. Special prizes will be given to the smallest Goodudeepa and the biggest one. Contestants under traditional Goodudeepas should register their names at the office of the Mutt before November 5. All the entries will be on display from November 7 to November 10 when Lakshadeepotsava is held. Bulbs and wires to the Goodudeepas should be provided by the contestants. Prizes will be distributed at a function being held at 5 pm on November 12,” he explained, addressing a press conference here on Thursday October 20.
