Mangaluru, May 28: With schools and colleges set to reopen in the first week of June 2024, Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal held a meeting with school and college managements as well as school vehicle drivers at the Police Commissioner’s office auditorium.
During the meeting, the regulations under the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Conditions for Vehicles Engaged in Transport of School Children) Rules 2012 were communicated to the heads of schools and colleges. They were instructed to observe these regulations without fail and to provide a report confirming compliance.
The safety of children traveling by school vehicles was a key topic of discussion. Drivers were instructed not to stop vehicles in the middle of the road, avoid creating obstacles to the smooth flow of traffic, ensure children are not picked up or dropped off in between the road, avoid carrying children beyond capacity, refrain from using harsh horns, and strictly adhere to all traffic regulations.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime and Traffic), assistant police commissioners, police inspectors of the traffic subdivision, and traffic station police inspectors were present at the meeting.
