Mangalore: NSS State Award Conferred on Mangalore University

Mangalore, Oct 19: “Service mentality comes from one’s heart. That should not be just for the sake of showing off to others. Students, through NSS, have done a lot for the nation,” said Governor H R Bharadwaj.

He was speaking after giving away the state NSS award to Mangalore University at function in Bangalore recently.

Bharadwaj also lauded the work of the NSS unit of Mangalore University. Chief minister Sadanand Gowda, who was present on the occasion, urged the need for rejuvenation of the NSS in the 21stcentury.
 
Mangalore University was given the ‘Best University’ award. Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankar Moorthy received the award. Mangalore University NSS co-ordinator Dr Gananath Yekkar was given the ‘Best Co-ordinator State Award’. On the occasion, including Roshni Nilaya College of Mangalore, nine other units were given state awards such as ‘Best Unit’.

Besides Vinitha Rai of Roshni Nilaya, nine others were given the best officer state awards and 10 volunteers were given the ‘Best Volunteer’ awards. I M Perumal, chief secretary of the department, Dr K B Dhananjay, Narasinmhaiah, and Mangalore University registrar Dr K Chinnappa Gowda were also present.
