Mangaluru: Youth ends life by jumping in front of train after girlfriend's death

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 20: A youth stood on railway tracks and killed himself by coming under a running train at Kolakadi railway gate near Mulky on Sunday May 20.

The deceased is identified as Kartik Poojary (20), son of Meera and a resident of Molottu. He was working as a mechanic in Chitradurga and had come to his house in Molottu on Saturday. He lived with his mother and grandmother in Molottu and had joined his relative’s garage in Chitradurga a few months ago.

Kartik was in love with one of his college mates. Since both were minors, their parents did not give consent for marriage. It is said that approval was given through a bond paper to get them married when they reached marriageable age.

In the midst of the agreement between the parents of the boy and girl, the girl's parents suddenly sent her to Moodbidri. She killed herself by hanging at home when no one was there. A case was registered at the Moodbidri police station.

Kartik, who was in Chitradurga, came to know about the suicide of his girlfriend and came to his home in Molottu on Saturday. His mother had gone to Kerala on urgent work early Sunday morning. By the time she returned, Kartik had died by suicide by coming under the wheels of a running train.

Mulky police inspector Vidyadhar visited the spot and registered a case.

Parents should be sensitive and sensible. If the children want to get married, elders should support them. Let them lead a life of their choice. Caste, creed, etc are man made. Ultimately, parents can see their children alive and living happily.

Not only sensalisation in movies, but such type of repeat incidents getting published in media too can to a very large extent influence many others who are in similar situations to take impulsive and irrational decisions....parents have to be very tactful while handling such situations; in fact parents with archaic mentality need to be counseled to change their mindset as per the current trend as the outside influences are evolving rapidly....with regard to love and physical relations in immature minds!

Rita, Germany, What have you seen in the western world?. Go out and see few high school kids kissing in public without caring for anyone. Rarely parents involve in children's love life. Minor or not. India is too different, there are many layers for different type of people. Only the simple, religious, and financially dependent children would such things in India. West has its own problems but they are no where near as desperate as seen in India. In the western world if you have the genuine fire in your stomach you can achieve many things without worrying about society.

Feel so sad. Two young life's lost. Parents if you want your kids alive just allow them to love and marry. No rationale works in them. Om Shanthi to both.

Very tragic end of two young lives 😭, RIP; such puppy love situations need to be handled with extreme caution and care! Media influence too has a big part to play in such incidents; remember after the movie Ek Duje ke liye was released there were many couple suicides across the nation!!

i think dramatization of love in indians movies is one of causes of these kind of deaths....it is better to have a subject or at least some classes to young students on this love affair beemari....RIP young man...
