Mangalore: Annual Festival at Pakshikere Church on October 28

Mangalore, Oct 17: Director of Pakshikere St Jude’s Thaddeus Church, Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, informed that the annual festival of the church will be held on October 28 this year. He was addressing a press conference here on Monday October 17.

Pakshikere is located two km away from Haleangady. The church, which was set up in 1960, has completed 50 years of illustrious existence. The beautiful church here is located in a serene atmosphere. People from all faiths regularly visit the church to pray and get peace of mind.

Retreat sessions will be conducted on three days from October 20. On October 23, a ‘Horekanike’ procession from devotees will be led to the church premises from Pakshikere town at 4.30 pm. Thereafter, Mass and public procession of St Jude will be held, followed by religious discourse in Kannada at Pakshikere town. Fr Alban D’Souza, who was recently transferred to Barkur Church after serving here for seven years, will be present.

“On this occasion, mass marriage function for poor families is being organized at the 10 am Mass at the church on October 25. Vicar general of Mangalore Diocese, Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, will bless the married couples. A community feast will also be arranged that day,” Fr D’Souza revealed.

At 10 am on Friday October 28, assistant Bishop of Mumbai Diocese, Dr Percival Fernandes, will  celebrate the Holy Mass. Dr Pius James D’Souza will deliver religious discourse. 

Preliminary sessions of prayer and discourses in the form of Novena will be held for nine days from October 19 onwards. Singing of hymns, rosary, prayers, special prayers for the sick persons, etc will be organized during this period. Facility to light candles in prayer of St Jude has been provided at the church hall, he explained.

Assistant director, Fr Sunil Praveen Pinto, Dolphy Miranda, Lucy Miranda and Louis D’Souza were present at the press conference.
