Bangalore: How Ailing Yeddyurappa Surrendered, but Skipped Jail

Bangalore, Oct 17: The bail pleas of former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who is under judicial custody on charges of corruption, and who is currently recuperating from chest pain at Jayadeva hospital, will be heard on Tuesday October 17 by the High Court.

Two bail pleas have been filed by lawyers representing Yeddyurappa - for interim bail and another for regular bail. Justice B V Pinto allowed the pleas to be heard.

Interestingly, Yeddyurappa has not spent a single minute in the lock-up, and is even yet to see his cell. The reason - soon after he surrendered on Saturday October 15 evening, he was taken to the jail hospital in Parappana Agrahara, and then admitted to Jayadeva hospital the same night.

According to DNA which carried a report on the matter, Yeddyurappa's lawyers began the legal and administrative procedures to shift him to Jayadeva hopital on Saturday evening itself.

"The formalities to shift the former CM were finalised at 10pm (on Saturday). That’s why none of his family members brought in any dinner. The process of shifting him to the hospital was delayed because Yeddyurappa wanted to hoodwink the media stationed outside the entrance of the prison," DNA quoted.

The institute's director C N Manjunath has appointed a team of five doctors to monitor Yeddyurappa's health. An angiogram is likely to be conducted later on Monday to determine whether he has heart problems or is suffering from complications arising out of diabetes and blood pressure.

The former chief minister was arrested after special Lokayukta court judge N. Sudhindra Rao declined bail Saturday in two of the five cases corruption and illegal land deals filed against Yeddyurappa by two Bangalore advocates Sirajin Basha and N K Balaraj

His two sons - BJP Lok Sabha member B Y Raghavendra and B Y Vijayendra - and son-in-law R Sohan Kumar were given bail.

Former state muzrai (endowments) minister S N Krishnaiah Shetty, BJP legislator Hemachanda Sagar and several others are also accused in the cases. Krishnaiah Shetty too was arrested.

    Everyone know that Yeddy is a big culprit. But still his party members are supporting him by saying that he will come out of the jail clean handed. How it is possible? In Shimoga itself, he has ammassed wealth of crores of rupees. With him his children also should have been put behind the bars because they are also in the same path of BSY. If he is released today, the people of Karnataka will lose faith in judiciary. I hope, he will be put behind the bars atleast for 5 years.

    Ahmed, Mangalore / Doha yes shocking result i think you forgot the recent by poll elections and ZP/TP elections where your secular kangress lost badly. So how come you are giving the astrology of next election result. Remember that people may not be happy with BJP, but also are not happy with secular kangress too.

    Why this chest pain was not there at the time of amassing the property and money? The word "prison" itself is like "poison" to the culprits and creates chest pain to the outer world to avoid bad inner feelings in the minds of people. Back pain, Chest pain, Blood Pressure, Diabetes.......... can't say what will come up in the next report.

    The entire drama shows the double standards of BJP, the so called 'clean party with a difference'. As far as corruption is concerned BJP is worst that Congress and they have proved it. BJP is trying to save Yeddy and Reddys by all crooked ways because both of them have huge wealth. Unfortunately, most of the people of Karnataka are still knowing the real facts and that is why they still support BJP. How sad it is indeed! God save our State.

    This is the weakness of Indian judiciary system. We need some strong law to check this in future.

    I hope judges of high court will understand this and rejects his bail application. He should not come out of jail.

    Reminds the story of Fox!! No better example for fox related story!! With this background securing a bail is easy!!
    Edmond, Yeddy is proved on cheating the govt by amassing wealth, that is why he had to go to jail. It is a story who cheats in crores. I pity all the criminals who cheat in thousands / lacks and spend months and years in jail!! This Yeddy way of development!! Free all the crooks from jail or transfer them to hospitals except the murders!!

    Mr Manoj Kudla, Let me improve your GK. In the last election at the height of the congress wave in Haryana, the congress lost the Hissar seat to Bhajan Lal and came third. This time again they have come third. In Telanga the seat was held earlier by TDP. This time it went to the TRS due to the Telangana stir. In Maharastra the seat was held by MNS and now it has gone to the BJP. In Bihar the seat was held last by JDU and it has again gone to the JDU. Therefore where has the congress lost? Can you explain this to me?

    As far as BJP is concerned, Yediyurappa case will put bad effect on BJP. This is the time when aam aadmi is fed up of congress rule and corruption from past 60 years. All are looking enthusiastically at BJP for a good government. We all know the fact that Congress has done nothing to this nation in past 60 years from Nehru to Rahul. Only they boast and mislead the people at the time of elections. BJP leaders please help yourself in pushing out all the corrupt politicians and keep the party clean.

    There is nothing to blame Eddy on this jail/hospital game.This are the loop holes in the state police system which become the slaves in the hands of political crooks. The Basha and team have been working since months together to file cases on Eddy on public interest and at the same time Eddy has the privilege to seek quashing of Lokayukta cases which were the main reasons for his resignation as CM. When both happens on the same day and same times and at the same judge then Basha after all a human being will surely raise a obligation on the judge to give more importance to his case rather than hearing and arguing on quashing cases on the same accused.

    Now a days one can hardly find anyone without blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol.So its better to change all Jails into hospitals and treat the culprits with injections. Atleast for the fear of injection they do not commit the crime.

    I think there are laps in dealing with Eddy's case.That should be investigated because he has long hand in the govt in present situation.I am also are the opinion that Court might taking cognizable elements in his evading of Jail Cell while hearing is interim and sustainable bail pleas .DVS govt certainly responsible to these kind of double std while dealing with criminal/corruptions accused.Present BJP govt owes an explantion to the people of Karnataka and as well as judiciary.

    Most of the VVIP prisoners in India are given special treatment inside the prisons. It is common among them of complain of chest pain and getting admitted in luxury hospital. This should stop or provide a prison ward in every Govt hospital and they should be entitled to get admitted only in such hospitals. The prison ward in the hospital should follow the rules of the prison like internal facilities and inmate's strict prisoner discipline with no visitors and a log on all the visitors with date, time, duration of the meeting etc.
    Prison is prison for a reason let’s stop glorifying it and giving prisoners so many privileges. Maybe then they will learn their lessons and not be repeat offenders. Isn’t that one of the goals of prison? Bring a change in the Prison Manuals in all the Indian prisons.
